In the 2023 year in review, there are surprising developments in the IT security landscape. But what awaits us in 2024? Which major topics will dominate IT security? The answer can be found in the forecasts for the top IT security topics in 2024 – and they are sure to surprise you!
What will be relevant from an IT security perspective in 2024? That"s what we will clarify in this newsletter. We hope you had a good start to the new year!
2023 is behind us; the year was all about artificial intelligence and neural networks. AI software found its way into practically all areas – including IT. Although AI makes many things easier – from automated network monitoring to data analysis in a matter of seconds – it also has its downsides. Artificial neural networks (ANN) do not distinguish between good and evil. The result: a noticeable increase in the quantity and quality of hacker attacks.
The topic of AI will continue to be with us this year. We expect the number and quality of phishing e-mails to increase internationally, as ChatGPT and its peers are developing rapidly and the results are becoming more and more realistic. We see in practice how often companies are attacked via this route and how important good employee training has become in this area.
Imagine your manager or a colleague calling you. The number is correct, and it"s the person"s familiar voice. You are asked how the restaurant where you ate over the weekend was. A perfectly normal conversation – but with artificial intelligence.
“Vishing” is short for “voice phishing”, i.e. phishing using speech. Thanks to AI, fraudsters may be able to carry out fully automated phone calls controlled by neural networks as early as this year. Fed, among other things, with email histories from previous hacks, hackers would no longer even have to be on the other end of the line themselves. It remains to be seen whether the method achieves a quality that is used across the board.

The second major innovation that is coming our way is the NIS 2 implementation law. From an IT security perspective, we see an opportunity for something to change for the better: significantly more companies will be obliged to pay closer attention to the issue of IT security. As early as 2023, it became apparent that many companies were preparing for NIS 2. This year, the topic is becoming more specific. Companies should therefore act as quickly as possible – for example, with our pentest
