BITKOM STUDY: BACKLOG IN EMPLOYEE TRAINING

07.11.2023

Bitkom study A recent Bitkom study shows that many companies only train a portion of their workforce – and even then, only rarely.4 out of 10 companies were victims of social engineering within a year. A company"s IT security stands or falls with its employees. They are one of the first lines of defence against hacker attacks and thus also a potential security gap.
The digital association Bitkom has investigated how well German companies train their employees in IT security. The good news is that eight out of ten companies have recognised the threat of hacker attacks and are training their employees. At the same time, it was revealed that many companies only train some of their staff, while 42 per cent of the companies surveyed were attacked using social engineering. The objectives: data theft, sabotage, industrial espionage.

Aaron Hartel, Commercial Director of Trufflepig Forensics, says: “IT security stands and falls with the culture of each company. If employees are taken along and encouraged through training to proactively participate in a good IT security strategy, this is of inestimable value to the company.”

Investing in training and raising employee awareness is an investment in the future. It strengthens employees" ability to recognise threats, respond appropriately and thus protect the company"s security in the long term.
